Working in Partnership
20 October 2025At Autism Plus, our social enterprises work closely together to create meaningful opportunities for the people we support. Trainees from Autism Plus Knaresborough regularly gain hands-on experience at our Chocolate Shop and Café in Easingwold, developing skills that build confidence and independence.
As part of their training, trainees plan their baking sessions, purchase ingredients, bake cakes and treats, and then see their creations proudly displayed and sold in the café. Others take part in work placements at the shop, serving customers and learning about hospitality and retail.
These activities offer much more than practical skills – they nurture confidence, teamwork, and pride in personal achievement.
“Our trainees love seeing customers enjoy the cakes they’ve baked,” said Sara Hatfield. “From buying the ingredients to serving in the café, they’re involved in every step.”
By connecting our social enterprises, Autism Plus provides real world experiences that help young adults with autism, learning disabilities, and mental health conditions develop life skills and prepare for future employment.
You can visit the Autism Plus Chocolate Shop and Café in Easingwold to enjoy handmade chocolates, freshly baked cakes, and friendly service from our wonderful team.
"I never thought we would ever see (family member) choose shopping and put it in a trolley in the supermarket, or go to a carvery and get things put on their plate, but this is happening."
