Autism Plus recieve National Lottery funding to expand The Nook Stop in Doncaster

03 March 2026

We’re delighted to share that Autism Plus has been awarded £159,100 from the National Lottery to expand The Nook Stop, our sensory space in Doncaster’s Frenchgate Shopping Centre. Thanks to this funding, we can open The Nook Stop five days a week, including weekends, and make it free to use for all visitors.

A calm space for everyone
The Nook Stop, which we launched in 2025 in partnership with AmbiSpace and with support from the Frenchgate Centre, provides a calm environment for people with autism, sensory processing differences, or anyone needing a quiet space in a busy shopping centre.

Safe, accessible sensory pods
Our space features five sensory pods, including a wheelchair-accessible pod, designed with reduced lighting, soothing textures, and a controlled sensory environment. It’s a safe retreat for neurodivergent visitors and those with sensory sensitivities.

More support for local families
The funding also allows us to employ staff to supervise the space and offer activities, workshops, and guidance, including employment support for people with neurodivergent conditions.

Suzanne Eusman, our Head of Employment Services, said:
“Thanks to National Lottery players, we can open The Nook Stop on more days and expand our support for Doncaster families. More people who need a calm, welcoming space can now access it.”

"I just wanted to say we had 2 of your chocolates after our lunch last weekend at the North Yorks Moors Railway. They were lovely and I will be looking on your website to order some for Christmas!"
