Frank

Frank

Frank had a unique sense of humour and a personality that brought joy to those around him. He had a natural ability to brighten people's day and was known for keeping everyone on their toes with his playful nature. His warmth, wit and individuality made him memorable to all who knew him.

Growing up, Frank experienced significant instability, trauma and uncertainty. His early life was shaped by difficult experiences that had a lasting impact on his emotional wellbeing, education and decision making. From the age of 16, he became involved with the criminal justice system, a path heavily influenced by the challenges he faced throughout his childhood.

Despite these experiences, Frank showed remarkable resilience. His goal was simple but important to him: to find a place he could truly call home.

How We Supported Frank

At Autism Plus, we worked alongside Frank to provide consistent, person-centred support during some of the most challenging periods of his life. Staff took the time to understand him as an individual, listening to his views, recognising his strengths and supporting him to work towards his goals.

A dedicated and consistent support team helped Frank build trusting relationships and provided the stability he needed to make positive changes. With the right support in place, he was able to focus on creating a home for himself and building connections within his local community.

Creating a Home

One of Frank's biggest ambitions was to live in a home that met his needs and provided long term stability. With support, he secured a tenancy with Hull City Council and moved into his own home.

Having a place of his own gave Frank a sense of security, independence and pride. He took great pleasure in maintaining his home and garden and often shared his achievements with staff.

Building Relationships and Community Connections

The consistency of Frank's support team enabled him to develop trusting relationships and become more involved in his local community.

Over time, he formed positive friendships and became a familiar and valued member of the neighbourhood. Frank's personality helped him connect with others, and he enjoyed being part of community life. These relationships contributed to his confidence, wellbeing and sense of belonging.

The Difference Support Made

Frank demonstrated the positive impact that stability, understanding and consistent support can have on a person's life.

Having a home of his own provided the safety and independence he had always wanted, while a dedicated support team helped him build confidence and meaningful relationships. Despite the challenges he experienced throughout his childhood and early adulthood, Frank showed determination and resilience in creating a life that reflected his goals and aspirations.

His journey highlighted the importance of being listened to, understood and given the opportunity to achieve what matters most. Frank's sense of humour, character and achievements left a lasting impression on those who knew him and continue to be remembered fondly by staff and friends alike.

“It was extremely helpful having Autism Plus workplace assessment to help us in working with an individual diagnosed with Asperger Syndrome, giving us a better insight of the syndrome so we could offer more appropriate support. The assessor was knowledgeable, understanding of the circumstances from a business perspective and really tried having a full overview of the situation. The report came back to us within the promised time frame and full of recommendations on how to best accommodate the individual needs, which was really thorough and supportive.”
