Frequently Asked Questions
- Can I bring someone with me to the first appointment?
- Yes, of course. The first meeting is very informal and is just to chat about our support and how we can help you, and to find out a little about what support you may require. If it helps to bring someone with you then this is not a problem.
- Do I need a diagnosis to access your service?
- No, our service is based on individual needs. We welcome individuals who have a formal diagnosis but also those who just need a little extra help towards employment but don’t have any diagnosis.
- What areas do you cover?
- Our support services are available remotely, right across the UK. Our face to face support currently covers South Yorkshire, West Yorkshire, North Yorkshire, East Riding and Derbyshire. However, if you are looking for one off support, training or consultancy then we are able to cover most areas from within the UK. Please contact us with details of what you are looking for and we will let you know if we can help.
- Do I need to come to Sheffield for support?
- No, we deliver our services in local areas. Speak to us about how we can support you where you live.
- I am already working but need some support in my job. Can you help?
- Yes, we can offer support in the workplace as well as advice, guidance and training to individuals in work regardless of how long you have worked in your current role.
- Is the support in a group or one to one support?
- Most of our support is on a one to one basis, however we do have some group support available. All our support is tailored to your individual needs. Speak to us to find out more.
- I am not claiming any benefits at the moment, can I still access your service?

- Yes, we support individuals with a range of disabilities not just autism. Our support is person centred and is based on you and your barriers, not based solely on autism.
- Is the support just about job search, because I do this with my jobcentre advisor already?
- No, our support is focused on individual action plans, our aim is to work with you to identify barriers to employment and support you to overcome these. This could be confidence, self esteem, identifying skills and strengths, securing or identifying work placements / volunteering, identifying courses to aid with skill development as well as employability skills.
- Can you help me with other things like understanding and managing my anxieties?
- Yes, our support is tailored to your needs, helping you to manage and understand your anxieties will ultimately help you to improve confidence and move closer towards paid employment.
- I am interested in attending one of your social groups, can I just turn up?
- Our social groups are drop in groups, however it helps if you let us know beforehand so that we can look out for you and help you settle in on your first visit.
- I already know what work I want and just need support with applications and interviews, can you help me?
- Yes, we support people at all stages of your journey towards work and where someone already knows what they are looking for then we will work with you to support with job search and interview preparation.
- I am really nervous meeting new people but want to come and talk to you about what help you can offer.
- Contact us via email if this helps, and we will arrange a date and time to suit you. Once you know who you will be meeting, you can visit our Meet the Team page. We can also arrange to come to you and meet you at a place that you are comfortable in if this helps.
